Two Coppers Casino is named in honor of Gabriel George, whose Tlingit name, Daaxtináa, translates to “Two Coppers.” Gabriel was the eldest son of Jimmie A. George and Lydia George, the original owners of the Alaska Native Allotment on which this development is located.

The land on which the casino stands is part of Native Allotment AA-80630, originally held by Jimmie and Lydia George and later transferred through a land exchange with the United States Forest Service. Through the vision and partnership of the George family heirs, a portion of this allotment was leased to the Central Council of the Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska for economic development purposes.

In 2015, the heirs of Jimmie A. George entered into a long-term lease agreement with Tlingit & Haida, creating the opportunity for the development of Two Coppers Casino. Their partnership and commitment helped transform this land into an enterprise that supports Tribal self-determination, economic opportunity, and community prosperity.

This casino stands as a testament to the legacy of Jimmie and Lydia George, the stewardship of their heirs, and the enduring strength of Tribal sovereignty. Through initiatives such as Two Coppers Casino, Tlingit & Haida continues to advance economic sovereignty, create opportunities for future generations, and contribute to the economic vitality of Southeast Alaska.
